How to use this summer to land you a internship or grad job
your step by step plan to using this summer to land a job
Hey guys, sorry this is a day late, I was stuck in meetings all day telling employers to spend their recruitment budget with us to get them to provide internships and grad jobs for 🫵🏾

Some of you have just finished your first or second year at university and are thinking about internships
Some of you have just finished university for good and are about to enter the working world.
But either way, you’ve got 8 weeks of summer ahead of you to help prepare you for the upcoming application cycle.
And how you use this summer can have a massive impact on your chances of securing that summer internship or graduate scheme.
So let’s break down step by step what you can do over the next 8-10 weeks to prepare yourself!

Firstly, I’d start with some reflection to identify the 2-3 roles you’re going to focus your applications on. A quantity>quality approach to applying isn’t productive, so the key is to work out the roles you actually want to apply for and fit your skillset/interests.
Once you know the 2-3 roles you’re going to focus your job search on, you need to do a skills audit to identify where your strengths align with the role but more importantly, where you have gaps and need to upskill.
Tip - use ChatGPT here to help you with this by putting in your strengths and asking it to cross-reference them with the skills needed for the role you want.
You now need to focus on upskilling yourself in the areas you need to improve. The best route of action to upskill yourself is qualifications + DOING. Yes, make sure to do the Excel course or a valuations certification. But actually practice doing the skill by completing a project where you can test the skill and reference it on your CV.
Now, a really important part - use this summer to network with people in your ideal roles in person. Summer is the perfect time for in-person coffee catch-ups, so when you reach out to individuals, offer to go for a coffee in person near their workplace. You will get so much more out of the conversation and that physical presence will allow them to have much more buy-in in supporting you through referrals.
Gearing up closer to application season, you need to now focus on getting your CV and Cover Letter Template ready ahead of applications. Using the skills developed, knowledge from the network and our free resources, you should be creating a tailored CV for each role you’re looking to apply for.
Lastly, start interview preparation now! Many students and grads only start preparing once they’ve got the interview, but the reality is that you’ll only have a few days, which would put you under pressure. Instead, start acting like you’re going to land interviews and begin doing a little and often interview prep. This means you’ll always be interview-ready.
And there we have it - a clear plan for this summer on how to prepare you for the upcoming application cycle.
